Monasteries of Attica: St. Ephraim the New (Nea Makri) and Transfiguration of the Lord ( Daou Penteli) (7-17 pax)

On the Attica coast, just north of the Rafina port there is Nea Makri village where the holy relics of the venerable martyr Ephraim the New, miraculously acquired in 1960 are stored in the monastery. The martyrdom death of the saint dates back to the 15th century, but only after five hundred years people learned about his sufferings and discover his relics. The Lord glorified him for his suffering and blessed him with the gift of miracles.

St. Ephraim became a famous physician of souls and bodies. And now there are hundreds of written testimonies accumulated from the date of gaining his relics.

In the Daou Penteli town there is a convent of the Transfiguration of the Lord founded in the 9th century. Initially the monastery was male. In 1680, on Holy Easter day the Agarians attacked and robbed the monastery, the whole brethren was killed. So the Holy Church acquired 179 new reverend martyrs. The relics of the saints rest to this day in the monastery. Today, Daou Penteli is a convent, where pilgrims are always welcomed by the sister of the monastery. With visiting this monastery our pilgrimage will end.
