Andros- the Miniature Copy of the Whole Greece
The necklace of forests, mountains, fruit groves, vineyards, canyons, streams and the turquoise sea comprise the image of Andros. White houses with blue windows and bright red-tiled roofs, aristocratic mansions and traditional "kapetanospita" (captains’ houses) add a special flavor to the island.
It is the northernmost island of the Cycladic group, situated approximately 10 km southeast of Euboea, and about 3 km north of Tinos. The island boasts a great naval tradition and a particular landscape: apart from sandy beaches, there are rocky coastlines, mountain ranges alternating with fertile plains, lush vegetation and rushing streams.
Hora – the Aristocratic Capital of the Island
The capital of the island, Hora, is home to famous Greek captains and ship owners, and there is a remarkable combination of medieval, neoclassical and island styles evident in its houses. The spacious green square, narrow streets, remarkable churches and museums, shops, cafes and restaurants add to the beauty of the place. Besides, there is the Frankish castle on an islet connected to the main island via an arched stone bridge.
