Zakynthos - the island in the Ionian Sea, located near the Peloponnese. Here were born and grew up two great Greek poets - Andreas Kalvos and Dionysios Solomos. Zakynthos painting school also originated on the island. The area of the island is 406 sq. km. and a population is about 41 thousand inhabitants.
How to get
Zakynthos has its own airport, which receiving charter flights from a wide range of cities. You can also get there by plane from Athens, Corfu and Argostoli. Also between Zakynthos and Kefalonia regularly run ferries.

The island's capital is the city of Zakynthos. It is very beautiful and colorful, a bit like the classic medieval city. It has a lot of Venetian mansions, cozy squares, flowery streets lined with souvenir shops, and sights.

Zakynthos has very favorable and healthy climate. In the period from November to January it rains, and closer to mid-March the swimming season opens. Average air temperature in summer is +26 C. You can swim until November, sometimes longer.
The total length of the coastline of the island is 123 km. For a holiday with family east coast will suit better. The western part of Zakynthos is rocky, so it is difficult to get to some beaches.
The most famous beach of Zakynthos is Gerakas. Here it nests rare turtle Caretta-Caretta, as well as on the beach of Laganas. Both of them are declared National Marine Sanctuary.
Another picturesque beach of the island is Limnionas, with beautiful underwater caves which are very popular among fans of diving.
Marafias is the beach protected from the wind by the rocks with white pebbles and the azure blue water.
Other very beautiful beaches of the island, where you will get the most enjoyment from a beach holiday in Zakynthos: Ksigkia, Dafni, Banana, Tsilivi, Alikes, Porto Zoro, Alykanas.
