Achaia
The region of Achaia is located in the northwestern Peloponnese. The capital of the region is the city of Patras – Greece’s Gate to the West, the third largest city and the main port of the country. It is a commercial hub, while its busy port is a nodal point for trade and communication with the Western Europe.
A Bit of History
The Achaean League was a Hellenistic-era confederation of city states in Achaia, founded in 280/281 BC. Later it included most of the Peloponnese, considerably reducing the Macedonian rule in the area.
As in many other areas of Greece, numerous invaders conquered the region at different times until the liberation of Greece in 1828.
Patras
Patras is a bustling student city, a place where entertainment, history and culture combine harmoniously together and create a destination filled with wonderful discoveries.
The city is built at the foothills of Mount Panachaikon, overlooking the Gulf of Patras. Patras is divided into 2 parts - Ano Poli and Kato Poli.
